Hello,
John and Chris here. We’re two dads, raising our daughter, Sara, in Georgia. We love where we live and wanted to continue this blog, in an attempt to paint a picture of our life, as we pursue an open adoption arrangement for the adoption of our second child. We are a loving, happy family of three, and look forward to the day that we can be blessed with a second child.

John, Chris, Open Adoption, Atlanta
Hello,
John and Chris here,
Above is a photo of the neighborhood we live, work and are raising our daughter, Sara. Sara came to us through the process of open adoption, and we’ve set up this blog to reach out to birthmother’s, if they are considering open adoption, that they may get to know a little about us, as we are ready to open our homes for a brother or sister for Sara.

Children, John, Chris, Dads, Open Adoption, Family Waiting to Adopt
We are in a town near the city of Atlanta, Ga. Decatur is a terrific place to live. It is home to a lot of great, family friendly events, schools, and places of worship. We have a large market that sells fresh produce, all within a short drive or bike ride. It is idyllic, really.
Thank you for stopping by our blog. If you are a birth mother, have any questions for us, give us a call using the toll free phone number, or email,
Warmly,
John and Chris, (and daughter Sara).
Happy St. Patrick’s Day – our neighborhood (Decatur, a small town near the city of Atlanta) is very child friendly. Although the restaurants are very welcoming to children and families, we’re keeping a low profile this weekend.
The city of Atlanta has a lot of events this weekend. There is a half marathon, Atlanta Hawks basketball game – and we’re staying in, with our daughter, Sara. And nothing is better than keeping a low profile and enjoying life with family!
We designed this blog for birth mothers who are considering open adoption. It is our hope, as we type small bits and pieces of our everyday lives, that some of our values and a little bit about who we are as dads, emerge.
Thanks for stopping by,
Warmly,
John and Chris, (and daughter Sara)

Warmly,
John and Chris

Georgia, John, Chris, Open Adoption, Grand Camellia
Hello all,
John and Chris here,
So, we thought it would be fun to post a little about what it’s like to live in Georgia. Well, in a word: sunny. We have been very fortunate to have been able to travel a little in our lives, and as parents, with our daughter, Sara, we do get to travel, as well. And the striking difference between our hometown of Decatur, Georgia, (which is near Atlanta, Georgia) – is blue sky. Living in the South means we get a lot of sun – and brilliant gardens.
The image above is of a plant called a camellia, and its size just illustrates how we lucky we are to get a lot of sunny, blue sky days. Plants here in Georgia have a lot of opportunity for early blooms, which can last months longer than other areas.
Just one of the benefits of raising a family, while living and working in the South: plenty of opportunity for outside sun time.
Thanks for stopping by,
Warmly,
John and Chris
Hi, John and Chris here,
We’ve been busy being Dads to our daughter, Sara, and working, and keeping a positive attitude, as we move ahead in 2012. The circus is in our neck of the woods these days.
Living so close to a city like Atlanta gives us a terrific opportunity to have access to art, museums, fairs, the circus. “Cavalia” was in town not too long ago (this is a performance with horses, under a big tent) – we actually have very little time, and don’t “do” these shows! But we love that as our family grows, we will be able to ease into these fantastic events.
Here are a few images of what’s going on in our neighborhood, near the city of Atlanta. (Thank you to our friend for forwarding, and to Decatur Metro Blog, for the images).

Building on the post from yesterday, below is a little quote from the note of the nanny who helped us out while we vacationed. We kept the note because we cherish these thoughts now and in the future, especially as we work and prepare for going through the process of finding a birth mother for the open adoption of our second child.
“Thank you so much for the picture, she is a beautiful child, inside and out. Like I said I usually don’t get so attached, but Sara stole a little piece of my heart”
Thanks for stopping by the blog!
Warmly,
John and Chris, and daughter Sara
Decatur, Ga
We’ve been thinking about a trip we took recently, skiing. Sara was with us, and we had a nanny help us out here and there during the trip. Below is a part of a note from the nanny, after our trip concluded, thought we’d share:
“…being a parent is sometimes so hard, you always want to do the best thing for your child, but What IS the best thing we really don’t ever know for sure at the time….And you guys are such great Dads, I see a lot of babys come through here and you two are definitely two of the best parents I’ve seen so far… I wish you both much happiness in your future with Miss Sara.”
Thanks for stopping by the blog!

We are so fortunate to have good people in our lives. Recently, we were on a family vacation and a daycare worker who helped us out caring for Sara was so gracious, helpful and complimentary. On our last day, she even gave Sara a little gift. These gifts make life so sweet.
We are John and Chris and daughter Sara. Sara came into our lives through the loving process of open adoption, and we’ve set up this site as we seek a birthmother for the open adoption of a second child. We are so excited at the prospect of extending our family to include one more, as we are a family waiting to adopt.

30th Annual Storytelling Festival To Be Held this Friday & Saturday, Decatur, Ga.
Family activities in our community ramping up. Decatur, the community where we have decided to raise our adopted daughter, Sara, is a family oriented town, where books, book reading, and storytelling, are valued. How terrific for the children of this neighborhood to have a consistent flow of reading opportunities and celebrations that clearly say, “we value families and reading.”
Story tellers gather, telling stores, for children and adults. This is an all ages event.
We know this weekend’s reading event is the first in a large series of opportunities here in Decatur, Ga, that we as a family can participate in, with joy.

We’ve had an early bloom of flowers this Spring. That means a little more allergies, but the payoff of living as a family in Georgia is that our winters are mild enough that cold air is never a deterrent to our getting outside.
I tried getting a picture of a dogwood bloom in this blog post, but there’s a problem with the picture, so we’ll work on that and upload later.
We can see our neighbors have early blooms with strawberries. How exciting!
A quick frost is expected in a week or two, and then it’s time to get in the garden. Can’t wait to get our hands full of dirt – looking forward to another beautiful season of gardening in Georgia this year.

John and Chris, Waiting Families to Adopt
The beautiful community we’ve chosen to raise our child, Sara, in, has a very old history. The above picture, from “Vanishing DeKalb” is from 1915. On the far left you can see the tip of our community courthouse, a focal point around which many local festivals and gatherings happen year round today.

Here is the courthouse today. It’s one of the things we like about our community: rich in history, its architectural history reaches back in time and still gives us beauty today.

John and Chris Adopt, Decatur Book Festival, Waiting Family to Adopt
Just read about the extension of sponsorship of Decatur’s (where we work and live as a family) wildly successful, annual book festival. This means that our great community can continue to enjoy, uninterrupted, year after year, (for the next 3 years) the child and family friendly festival. The Decatur Book Festival is a good example of what makes this community so fantastic to raise kids and be a family, together, and we look forward to this and other local festivals, for years to come.

We have become much more adept at seeing other babies and knowing much better about what age they are because of development milestones. Before, we couldn’t tell you if a baby was 3 months, 6 months, or close to a year old.
We are John and Chris and we are a waiting family to adopt. We are looking for the birthmother for the adoption of our second child. We are a family of three. Sara is our daughter. Funny things we didn’t know about babies that we now know, as parents … hmmm. Babies are like parrots in that they are great mimickers…they are looking for more new things to gurgle and test out saying. Babies love wooden spoons and Tupperware. Flashy toys are ok but nothing beats a wooden spoon in the mouth and some plastic containers to kick around.
Thanks for visiting our blog, as we continue our search for the birthmother for the adoption of our second child,
Warmly,
John and Chris, and baby Sara
Hello,
January is almost at a close, and what we are both hopeful for for 2012 is to add a sister or bro to the clan this year!

John posted the other day about his take on our “Best Memory This Past Christmas,” and I thought I’d chime in with my thoughts, as well…
Sara’s first Christmas and birthday was special even though she couldn’t appreciate it much yet! Just fun to watch her taking it all in.
In that little mind of hers she’s constantly processing all of the new stuff happening around her! It was also fun to see her dressed up in her red and white Christmas clothes.

Best memory of this past Christmas together as a family….taking a Christmas day walk with chris and Sara. Watching Sara discover miniature ponies in a field next to her grandma’s house. Christmas eve reindeer grazing in grandma’s field. Sara pointing at the christmas tree with all out gusto and saying her version of “tree” which is “glhhee”

Love of Reading Growing Up, John and Chris
A friend asked us the other day what books John and I really enjoyed as we were growing up, and it got me to thinking: not sure I had a favorite book growing up, but I did like reading mysteries that were geared towards kids.
There was a whole series I read that our school library and local library carried most of. My memories of the mystery books I read while growing up are that the mystery genre kept me entertained and wanting to read more!

Open Adoption, John, Favorite Books
John here. I’m thinking about favorite books growing up. Both Chris and I know and value the importance of books. To have and be surrounded by books is a gift.
One of the great things about where Chris and Sara and I live is that we have a community that supports independent book sellers. Decatur, the town we’re raising our daughter in, has a BIG, annual book fair, complete with food vendors and lots and lots of children’s activities.
What was my favorite book growing up? William Carlos about the “wild west”. I wonder which books Sara will choose as her favorite, as she grows up.
Sincerely,
John
Hello,
Time is flying by and we haven’t had much of a chance to blog everyday! There are a lot of new photos with us as a family on our Facebook page, and we earnestly work toward updating that page and this blog with more of our family life. Stay tuned for more!

Open Adoption, John, Chris, Birth Mother
Isn’t this a lovely drawing? A friend forwarded it to us the other day. It was found while she was sifting through the internet, looking for new books to share with children.
Crafting a good story is an art, isn’t it? And one of the things we enjoy as being parents is sharing our past experiences with our daughter. We can weave our lives in the art of storytelling for our daughter, Sara.
As a family, and as we look for the birth mother for the open adoption for our second child, we reflect happily on how much we have, and how many happy times we look forward to in the future, as a growing family.
Warmly,
John and Chris

Preparing Carrots for Soup John Chris Adoption
What we’ve found as adoptive parents is that food can be a real connecting force with children. With our daughter, Sara, and myself and Chris, we value organic, home made food. It’s an opportunity to sit down as a family, take a deep breath, connect, and continue nurturing our family culture.
Living so close to a wonderful food market, where we can purchase fresh, organic food at very low prices, a quick and easy soup to make is vegetable broth. Serve with favorite bread. Because winter is upon us, you can even warm the bread a little. This dish is a great appetizer, first dish, or small meal.
Vegetable broth as a soup is terrific for family! Here’s one way to prepare the soup:
What you’ll need (we use organic for everything):
Stock pot with lid
Strainer
Fresh, filtered water
Almost 2 pounds carrots
One bunch celery
One onion
Salt and pepper to taste
Chopped parsley
How to prepare:
Strain the soup when serving to young children. Use judgment when serving to toddlers and younger to prevent choking hazards. Whomever you are serving, know allergies beforehand.
That’s it! That is the vegetable broth soup recipe we like to prepare for our family. Maybe you can prepare it for yourself and see how it works for you.
We are John and Chris, adoptive parents of a beautiful child, Sara. We are parents ready to adopt our second child! We are ready to welcome a brother or sister for our beautiful daughter, Sara. If you are a birth mother, we would love to speak with you as you think through this important decision.

Decatur Ga - Near Atlanta - Where We Live and are Thriving as a Family

halloween pumpkin john and chris adopt
We are John and Chris, and this is the first week we are embarking on this new blogging journey, as we look to adopt a second child.
Being parents, we’ve had the pleasure of rediscovering our community, Decatur, Ga, with our daughter, Sara. As a family, we are so fortunate to live in an area with good schools, parks, the arts, and more.
Halloween is fast approaching. Pumpkin carving, tissue ghosts, and visiting a few homes of people our child, Sara knows, is a great way to celebrate Autumn, Halloween, the turning colors of the leaves on the trees and the cool weather soon to come.
May your Halloween be safe, simple, happy and memorable.
